One of the most common questions I get from people is whether or not Circl.es has an app. Some people who don’t really know what Circl.es is think it’s only an app and ask how many people have “downloaded” it. Well, it’s not an app – just a (very) simple website. And that’s okay for now.
A huge reason it’s not an app yet is that it’s so new – right now the priorities are on building the best internet experience possible, before we try to replicate it on other platforms. Building apps takes time and money – and right now, the best place to spend time and money is to build a wonderful web product. The internet is open – anyone can access Circl.es from any device – and this allows more people to access it…. not just people with iPhones.
More importantly, the purpose of Circl.es – to find you dates and possibly even love – is very important, but not so urgent that you need to be doing it when you’re on the bus or walking around town. Circl.es is all about honesty and efficiency – you probably won’t be logging on every day, and when we have no more people to show you, we tell you to leave. This is why Circl.es is so great – it doesn’t waste your time. We want to build user engagement by honestly engaging you with real romantic possibilities, and not just showing you photos of people who became inactive months ago or have no interest in you.
Furthermore, stalking people on Facebook is a full-screen endeavor – you’ll have multiple tabs open, and this doesn’t translate well into the mobile realm.
Best. App. Ever.
Eventually, if Circl.es is successful, there will be apps and mobile versions. But for now, for all the reasons above, it’s web-only. Not everything in life has to be an app. If you’re looking for a time waster, Angry Birds is a lot more fun, and much more useful as a mobile app that goes everywhere with you.
